About the Dietitian role

We have a new, part time, community-based employee position that we are looking to fill. The successful applicant will provide mobile dietetic services to Active Ability’s clients in the Sutherland Shire of Sydney.

  • Become an expert in disability – disability is our team’s core focus and each of our team members have their own expertise.
  • Expect your job to be incredibly rewarding – you will be a valued and important part of your client’s life. You will build relationships with your clients and their stakeholders, and you will be rewarded when seeing them achieve their goals.
  • Manage a complex case load – your knowledge and skill will be challenged every day in order to support your clients safely and effectively to achieve their goals because of the barriers they unfortunately face due to their health, function and disabilities. Complex mental illness (Schizoaffective Disorder, Schizophrenia, Bipolar), intellectual disability (Down Syndrome, Angelman’s Syndrome, Prader Willi Syndrome), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), complex feeding disorders as well as rare and complex neurological conditions to name a few.
  • Expect a varied and changing client base – in the disability sector you will experience significant variety to your schedule day-to-day (not to mention, our clients age from 2 years to 65 years old!). Also, because of the limited funding that our clients usually receive, expect to need to be creative to best utilise the funding in order to build their capacity ready for discharge – no maintenance services here!
  • Join an amazing team culture, full of passion, drive and fun – we all have the same mission or focus that we work by - to support people with disability to achieve optimal independence, health and quality of life. Be generous, be humble, self-education, provide crazy client services (how do our clients feel at the end of their appointment? We want raving fans!).
  • Get involved in Multidisciplinary team meetings frequently – collaboration is crucial to the success of your intervention in disability – meet regularly with behaviour support therapists, speech therapists, OTs, support workers, support coordinators and GPs, not to mention physiotherapists and exercise physiologists.
  • Receive professional development (PD) support always – a minimum of 4 events annually plus in-services and a PD plan focused on developing your expertise. Support from senior clinicians and directors through case reviews, PD and skill development sessions that will broaden your skill set and experiences.
  • Expect a flexible work environment - we spend more time at work than anywhere else, so you need to love what you do (passion), and you need to work in a fabulous team that values your contribution. Work from home, manage your own diary (attend personal appointments if you need), work independently but seek support and assistance from management when you need it.
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assess and treat clients in their own home, to carry out interventions that improve functional independence and quality of life
  • Provide face to face and occasional tele-support to clients in community settings of their choice, in their own home, group homes or day programs.
  • Provide dietetic advice and behaviour change advice to clients living with disability or chronic/complex conditions
  • Provide appropriately targeted education for clients, carers and staff as required
  • Ensure appropriate written and verbal communication with key stakeholders as required including timely reports and dietary or meal plans
  • Communicate and work efficiently and collaboratively with the team to ensure best practice & integrated client care

  • Active Ability is a young vibrant company with motivated and energetic employees. You'll love being part of our team!
  • Make a real difference in your client’s lives
  • Remuneration for mileage
  • Support from senior clinicians and managers for skill and knowledge development with regular case reviews and PD events
