Fit n Able a registered NDIS provider that specialises in improving the strength, fitness, mobility, balance, confidence & social skills of our participants. We are looking for highly motivated Exercise Physiologists, Sports Scientists or Personal Trainers, who have the desire and personality to work with people with disabilities and mental health conditions.
 
 Fit n Able is a purpose-built gym for people with disabilities and mental health conditions, offering a unique blend of fitness training, rehab and clinical, delivered with a person-centred approach.  If you are looking for a role where you will be trained in a unique set of skills that go beyond just physical fitness, then this may be the job for you.
 
You will work with many types of participants with various disabilities such as autism, down syndrome, intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, MS, brain injuries and mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, schizophrenia and bipolar.
 
You will be required to go through about 20 hours of initial training that covers how to work and communicate with participants with various disabilities and technique training in progressive overload strength training that has been adapted to be able to train and progress this population group safely.
 
The position is currently casual with opportunities to move to permanent part time or full time depending on your desire and performance over time.
 
You will be mentored by one of the most experienced professionals in Australia when it comes to working with people with disabilities and mental health conditions.
 
The ideal candidate must fit the criteria below, be willing to learn new skills and approaches to exercise and communication and have the right personality to work with the population group we serve.
 
What is expected from you at Fit n Able?
 

• You will need professional insurance, and registration with ESSA or Aus Active.
• CPR & First Aid Certificates, Working with Children's Check & NDIS Workers Screening Check.
• A Certificate IV in fitness, or a Spots Science or Exercise Physiology degree.
• Have or obtain a level one boxing instructions certificate no less than 6 weeks from your start date of employment.
• You must be prepared to learn new methodologies and new ways of communication.
• You must have a desire to work with people with disabilities or have had some experience working with people with disabilities.
• You must be prepared to commit to each of your clients for the length of their program (12 weeks minimum).
• You must be prepared to follow our systems and processes.
• You must be punctual, well presented and turn up to work with a positive attitude.

• You'll be trained and mentored on the job and learn a unique set of skills very few people have in the fitness/health industry.
• Disability fitness training in autism, down syndrome, intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, MS, mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, schizophrenia and bipolar.
• How to use Evidence Based Practice (EBP) to communicate with, motivate, progress or regress people with disabilities, from high functioning to non-verbal clients.
• How to conduct fitness assessments for people with disabilities
• How to write programs for people with disabilities.
• You will be provided with your own clients and clients will increase as you become more confident when working with our population group.
• Clients are long term, (12months on average) rather than short term clients.
• You will be paid competitive rates including superannuation.
• You will be paid if a client cancels with less than 24 hours’ notice.
• If you show long term commitment to Fit n Able, we will put you through various external courses to increase your skill set.
