November is here and that means Movember has officially kicked off for 2025. Born in Melbourne back in 2003, Movember has grown into a global movement tackling the biggest health issues men face - mental health, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer. The stats hit hard with three out of four suicides in Australia being men, one in six Aussie men being diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, and testicular cancer being the most common cancer in young men aged 15 to 39, yet regular self-examinations still aren’t part of most blokes’ routines. Movember’s mission? To flip these stats by sparking conversations, funding life-saving research, and helping men take charge of their mental and physical well-being. If you’re aged 15 to 39 now’s your annual queue to check your pair, and if you don’t know where to start Movember’s got you covered with this super simple guide on how to self-check if there’s anything unusual going on with your family jewels you should be chatting to a doctor about. Over 50? You need to be chatting to your GP about whether it’s time to get a test done to screen for Prostate Cancer- unless you have a family history, like a dad or brother that’s experienced prostate cancer- then you need to be having this conversation from 45. But the spirit of Movember is about more than check-ups, with thousands of Aussies coming together each year to raise funds and awareness for programs changing the way men talk about, detect, and manage their health. Whilst growing a mo may be the movement’s most recognisable symbol, moving to raise funds for Movember is proving just as popular- especially for those of us who don’t want to (or umm can’t?) grow a mo! Movember invites Aussies to move 60km over the month of Movember remembering the 60 men lost to suicide every hour globally, and raise funds in the process.
