After months of anticipation, Sense Of Self has confirmed it will open the doors to its first NSW bathhouse this September, bringing one of Australia's most talked-about wellness destinations to Surry Hills. The announcement also comes with a first detailed look inside the 1,200-square-metre space, revealing a bathhouse unlike many of Sydney's existing wellness destinations. Housed inside a former industrial warehouse, the two-level venue feels a world away from the polished stone and resort-inspired aesthetic that has come to define many modern bathhouses. Instead, rich terracotta brick, soaring ceilings, soft natural light and expansive communal spaces create an atmosphere that's warm, grounded and designed to be enjoyed at a slower pace. Sense Of Self has built a loyal following since opening in Melbourne's Collingwood in 2020, with many Sydney wellness lovers making the trip south to experience it. This September, that experience will finally be available a little closer to home. According to the brand, the Surry Hills venue will be Sydney's largest indoor bathhouse and home to the largest sauna in the Southern Hemisphere. Alongside it, you'll find two mineral hot pools, an expansive Hammam steam room, an immersive walk-through cold plunge, dedicated relaxation areas and massage treatment rooms. One of the experiences making the journey from Melbourne is the much-loved Scrub Station. Set within the Hammam, it allows you to choose from a selection of products before enjoying a self-guided exfoliation ritual in the steam. There will also be Quiet Mornings for those who prefer to soak, sweat and unwind in silence. Sense Of Self is also intentionally device free, encouraging guests to leave their phones behind for the duration of their visit. You might arrive after a workout, carve out a few quiet hours in the middle of a busy week or simply be looking for somewhere to slow down. Whatever brings you through the doors, the focus is on being present rather than distracted. Sydney's appetite for bathhouses continues to grow, but Sense Of Self doesn't feel like another version of what's already here. From its industrial architecture and generous scale to its community-focused approach to bathing, it promises an experience that's distinctly its own. Bookings are expected to open shortly, with a waitlist now available for those hoping to be among the first through the doors.
