On a mission to raise global awareness about the plastic problem, Zero Co’s 100YR CLEANUP team is going underwater to clean all seven seas of the world. In celebration of World Ocean Day (8th June 2023), Zero Co is teaming up with sustainable wine brand, The Hidden Sea, for the 100YR CLEANUP’s third global event – an initiative dedicated to cleaning the planet every year, for the next 100 years.

Plastic pollution has risen exponentially over the past few decades, with more than 170 trillion plastic particles now estimated to be floating in our seas. With a team of international divers and volunteers, Zero Co are aiming to remove 50,000 water bottles worth of rubbish from bodies of water across the globe. Founder of Zero Co, Mike Smith, will kick off the global dive from Sydney’s Lavender Bay whilst six other teams prepare to join him from around the world.

Committed to the preservation of our oceans and planet, Mike says, “Plastic pollution is a global problem that requires a global solution. We hope that by coming together, from all around the world to raise awareness and tackle this problem, that we’re able to inspire others to take action in their own daily lives.”

Zero Co’s World Ocean Day initiative is just one part of the brand’s larger commitment to Untrash The Planet. Alongside funding clean-ups, the purpose-driven start-up reduces waste in Aussie households with their single-use plastic free cleaning & body products that are delivered in refillable, reusable packaging.

Determined to save our seas, dives will take place in the Pacific Ocean (Sydney, Australia), North Atlantic Ocean (Cornwall, UK), North Pacific Ocean (San Diego, USA). Arctic Ocean (Great Slave Lake, Canada), South Atlantic Ocean (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), Indian Ocean (RushiKonda beach, India) and the Southern Ocean (Chubut, Argentina). The rubbish collected will be sorted and recycled where possible, with some being re-purposed to make Zero Co products.

Everyone can get involved in this project, with businesses and the public invited to sponsor a bundle of rubbish which the 100YR CLEANUP will collect on your behalf. Head to www.100yrcleanup.com to join the underwater mission.
