Ducktober - A daily duck for Mental Health

A daily duck for mental health

Ducktober is WOW’s annual fundraising event during Mental Health Awareness Month in October. Participants are challenged to take on a daily duck in cold water to improve their mental health while raising money to help others improve theirs. All fundraising directly helps WOW continue to provide free surf therapy programs.

How it works

  1. Sign Up- Rally a team or sign up yourself and pledge to duck in cold water every day this October for your mental health!
  2. Share- Share your challenge with family and friends and ask them to support your daily duck this mental health month.
  3. Duck- Duck in cold water every day in October! You can jump in the ocean, hop in a cold shower or plunge into an ice bath.
Why you should get involved

Each year, 1 in 5 Australians will experience a mental health illness, but the mental health sector is overwhelmed, and waiting lists are impossibly long. 54% of Australians who have mental health problems don't receive support as, for many, the traditional system is unsuitable or inaccessible, where many are intimated by it and commonly avoid it.

As an independent charity, your Ducktober fundraising will enable WOW to change more lives by facilitating our free 8-week surf therapy programs, offering an alternative solution for those struggling to access the support they need.

Waves of Wellness (WOW) is an Australian mental health surf therapy charity supporting our community with free mental health programs. We run clinical-based surf therapy programs so struggling people receive the needed help. We call it 'health by stealth'.
All of the funds raised go directly to WOW's mental health work. To give you an idea, AUD 7,000 can pay for a full 8-week surf therapy program for up to 13 people who are experiencing mental health challenges. Your fundraising makes our mission to empower people through innovative mental health support possible.

Whether you're jumping in the ocean, hopping in a cold shower, plunging into an ice bath, or going for a surf, each plunge into cold water is more than a challenge - it's a step towards making mental health care accessible for everyone.
