A Practical Framework You Can Use To Reflect, Release And Set The Stage for 2025

As the year draws to a close and we come to the time of the year in between Christmas and NY when you might have some time for yourself that you don’t know what to do with, it’s the perfect opportunity to pause, reflect, and set the stage for the new year. Reflection is a powerful practice. It’s not about looking back, but about releasing what no longer serves us and creating space for what’s to come.

Here are four ways I love to reflect and wrap up my year that you can use to do the same:

1. Forgiveness Practice – Releasing the Past = Freedom
One practice I swear by is Ho’oponopono, an ancient Hawaiian method for reconciliation and forgiveness. The Ho’oponopono mantra is simple yet profound: I’m sorry. Please forgive me. I love you. Thank you.

Here’s how I use it:

  • Write down what or who you need to let go of - this could be a situation, person, or circumstance.
  • Reflect deeply on each statement - I’m sorry. Please forgive me. I love you. Thank you. Journal under each one, letting yourself write freely.
  • Allow what needs to surface to come through - no judgment, just honesty. You might be surprised by what emerges!
Releasing the past through forgiveness brings freedom, clarity, and peace.

2. Lessons Learned and Gifts I Received – Finding Growth in Every Experience
The lessons we learn, even from tough situations, are opportunities to grow. Often, hidden within these lessons are unexpected gifts: self-awareness, compassion, clarity, resilience, or a deeper connection to ourselves.

Here’s how to uncover your lessons and gifts:
  • What lessons did you learn this year? Reflect on the situations that had the biggest impact on you.
  • What was your biggest takeaway? Was it about trusting your intuition? Recognizing the early signs of an issue?  Honouringyour needs?
  • What gifts can you uncover? What clarity, growth, or self-awareness can you carry forward into the future?
Even challenging moments can leave behind gifts to cherish and build upon.

3. Celebrations and Wins – Honouring How Far You’ve Come
We’re often quick to jump from one goal to the next, forgetting to pause and celebrate what we’ve accomplished. Big or small, every win matters.

Here’s how to start celebrating your wins:
  • Write out your wins – List everything you’ve accomplished this year, no matter how small. Every step forward counts!
  • How did you celebrate? Reflect on how you honoured your achievements, or plan something special to celebrate now.
Take a moment to honour the journey, not just the destination. Write down everything you’re proud of this year - no win is too small!

4. Who I Am Now – Embracing Who I’ve Become
This is my favorite reflection practice: taking a deep, honest look at who I am now compared to who I was at the start of the year.

Growth happens in so many ways - mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, and beyond. Every challenge, every success, and every interaction shapes who we become.

Ask yourself:
  • How have I grown in my relationships this year?
  • What’s shifted in my connection to myself?
  • What new strengths, habits, or values have emerged?
  • Who am I now, as this year draws to a close?
This reflection can bring gratitude for the journey and excitement for what’s next.

Take Time to Reflect and Release
Carve out time for yourself and your journal to reflect and release. Doing this work will help you fully embrace the possibilities of 2025. I can 100% guarantee that showing up and reflecting on these four points will change the way you step into the new year!
