Tired? Stressed out? Here are some practical tips from Aussie entrepreneurs for happy healthy abundant living

It’s easy to stay focused on our intentions to bring us closer towards our goals and create abundance in our every day when we’re fresh back after a break feeling re-energised and fearless, but what about when holidays are a distant memory and you’ve had some obstacles thrown at you?

Whether your key focus for this year is getting that promotion at work you worked your butt off for in 2023, hit a new PB with your training, or make that eco-adventure you’ve been dreaming of a reality, practical tips on how you can stay focused even when curve balls are thrown your way can be pretty handy- especially if they come from entrepreneurs who are leaders in their respective fields.

To help you keep showing up each day in a way that will have you feeling like you’ve got the tools you need to stay happy, healthy, and on track for whatever you’re working towards, we asked six Aussie Entrepreneurs to share the tips they use personally to stay energised and motivated.

Luke Mcleod, founder of Soul Alive and author of Everyday Enlightenment
‘A quick 5-minute meditation can do wonders to get your head in the game. It's like hitting the reset button on your computer. It does this by shifting the mind from the ever-working thinking mode into the 'neutral gear' of the mind. Allow it to rest and recharge. Even a few minutes in this state is incredibly refreshing for the brain. Going for a run is my second tip. The body and the mind are closely connected. So by allowing the body to release tension through some type of exercise, this has a flow-on on effect to brain, again giving it a quick reset which puts it back into an optimal state.’

Carolyn Devries, founder of New Way Lawyers
'Two of my go to tips for staying focused and engaged at work are (1) Using the last 5 minutes of the workday to prepare for the following day. Doing this allows me to feel organised before the day even starts and hit the ground running with a clear agenda and focus (2) Embracing energy management not time management. Working in harmony with my natural energy cycles rather than according to normal work hours, wherever possible, maximises my productivity and output.'

Christie Whitehill, co-founder of INTU WELLNESS
'Being an entrepreneur, you quickly realise that the journey is filled with uncertainty, rejection, and demanding challenges. You need to develop resilience and grit, allowing you to persevere in the face of adversity. I like to write down my learnings and journal about how I am feeling to help me get those thoughts off my mind. I also make sure that I spend time in nature more days, do some breathwork and meditation to help centre me so I am ready to take on the obstacles as they come.'

Mick Spencer, co-founder of Gravity Seltzer
'I have quite a few tools that help my mindset. Many of them are around looking after my mental and physical health. For example, I make sure I work out to stay fit. I try to get up to enjoy the sunrise, I make sure I have a good amount of time for family and friends when I am enjoying downtime and I try to get out in nature when I can. When it comes to my business decisions my main tip is to always apply a long-term outlook. Don’t make short-term decisions, always think of the bigger picture.'

Anna Robards, co-founder of INTU WELLNESS
‘Focus on solutions, not problems. Rather than overthinking obstacles and stressing yourself out, write down a list of possible solutions, then write out a game plan/task list. Tick off each task as you action it until you have resolved the task. I find the process to be very satisfying and it helps keep me focused and my head in the game.’

Sophie Doyle, founder of The Fable
‘For me, getting into the right mindset to achieve my tasks at hand is often about surroundings.  If I’m trying to zone in, I’ll put on some chilled-out, non-lyric music and light a candle. Alternatively, if I am trying to remove outside distractions, I will often put on my noise-cancelling headphones to remove those distractions. If I’m trying to get in a creative mood, I often find a few minutes of joy-scrolling Pinterest helps the cause, and a good strong coffee never hurts either.’
