Wouldn’t it be cool if at tax time each year you could claim a deduction for your gym or studio membership? If you think it would be we’re here to tell you the good news that it totally COULD BE! The united body for Australia’s health and wellbeing, AUSactive is calling on the Federal Government to acknowledge the importance of staying fit and well by allowing tax deductions for gym, pilates, yoga, tai chi, and active health memberships. Despite the clear benefits of gym and studio memberships not just on physical health and well-being but mental well-being, gym and other active health memberships aren't currently eligible for tax deductions. AUSactive has put forward a budget submission proposal to the Federal Government that will not only help with the cost of living for many Australians but also get more people active by allowing fringe benefit tax (FBT) exemptions for fitness, for gym memberships to be tax deductible and to start a national public health campaign to increase physical activity. This move aims to support health and fitness lovers in their choice to make their health and well-being a priority, but to get parliament to pay attention this petition needs every signature it can get! So how can you get behind this important initiative that can benefit not just you but all Australians? Sign the petition here today and spread the word by sharing this with your work team, community, friends, and family to help make gym memberships tax deductable.
