Gynostemma pentaphyllum, a climbing vine that has been consumed as a daily tea for generations in parts of southern China. Also known as jiaogulan, the herb has picked up some rather ambitious nicknames over the years, including “immortality herb” and “magical grass”, thanks to its traditional association with longevity.
The Superfeast team is particularly excited about Gynostemma's naturally occurring gypenosides (a group of saponins related to compounds found in Panax ginseng) and its long history of use as a tonic herb. Gynostemma is also commonly described as an adaptogen, although, as with many traditional herbal medicines, some of the bigger claims surrounding its effects are still being explored by modern research.
What makes this new arrival particularly appealing is how uncomplicated it is to use. Rather than another powder or capsule to add to your supplement routine, Gynostemma comes as a loose-leaf tea designed to become an easy daily ritual.
