For over 60 years, Lifeline has been connecting with Australians in need through crisis support and suicide prevention services with 43 centres around the country and now for the first time they’re teaming up with febfast encouraging Aussie’s to take a break from alcohol (or another vice) for 28 days and raise much-needed funds to reduce the risk of addiction and suicide.
With 1 in 3 Australians drinking at risky levels, febfast is a great way to encourage people to call time-out on alcohol that can do wonders for your physical and mental health, not to mention make a real difference to the lives of other Australians.
Thousands of Aussies are expected to sign up to this year’s febfast challenge with the pledge to give up alcohol for 28 days during February with all funds raised supporting Lifeline Australia’s 24/7 crisis support services as well as the work of youth support advocacy service YSAS, to help fight addiction in young people and reduce the risk of suicide.
According to a 2020 report commissioned by the National Suicide Prevention Taskforce, alcohol and other drug use is one of the diverse social determinants of health which may contribute to suicidality. When used as a coping mechanism for the experience of emotional distress, alcohol can also exacerbate a number of other significant life stressors.
So are you up for the challenge of giving up alcohol in the name of feeling healthier and more productive with better sleep, as well as having greater energy and more money in the bank at the end of the month? Raising just $39 can cover the cost of Lifeline to provide connection and support to someone seeking help!
