Cleaning up our environment and oceans has officially become a sport, and not only can you compete in the very first environmental clean-up world cup to take care of our earth this season but you could actually bag an international trip if you win to represent the country. The meditationHQ and Ocean Lovers communities will be hosting the first ever environment clean up world cup event, dubbed Spogomi, right here in Sydney on Manly Beach on Saturday 26th August 2023. Sponsored by Nippon organisation, it involves teams made up of three people competing in picking up rubbish in a designated area. The best part? The winning team will be flown to Japan (yep, you read that right) to compete against 20 countries. It is estimated that about 80% of marine litter comes from cities, and picking up rubbish in urban areas is crucial in order to protect marine life. The term ‘Spogomi’ comes from Japan, an abbreviation of Sport Gomihiroi where teams compete against each other for points awarded according to the amount and the type of rubbish picked up in a given area, within a set time limit. ‘We aim to create a proactive approach and a global movement that transcends national and generational boundaries. SPOGOMI aims to reduce litter that eventually ends up in our ocean.’ Only 30 teams will be selected to take part here in Australia so grab two mates and run, don’t walk, to get your entry in here. ___ Image & Content Source
