This Is The Supplement Brand Customers Say Has Switched Them Back “On”

After a decade creating supplements from real food and medicinal herbs, Bio Blends is entering its next chapter with a new name.

The nutritional supplement brand founded by nutritional biochemist Dr Libby Weaver has officially become OnBlends, but while the branding is changing, the philosophy behind its formulations isn't.

If the name Bio Blends isn't already familiar, the rebrand gives us a good excuse to introduce you.

Dr Libby holds a PhD in biochemistry and a Bachelor of Health Science in Nutrition and Dietetics with Honours, and has spent more than 25 years working in the health and wellness space. She's also the bestselling author of 14 books, with her latest, Fix Iron First, exploring the far-reaching role iron plays in the body and why iron depletion can sometimes be behind symptoms people may not immediately connect with the mineral.

It was her experience working with people clinically that ultimately led her to create Bio Blends in 2016 after becoming frustrated with the supplement options available to her.

Rather than relying on synthetic forms of isolated nutrients, the range was developed around nutrients sourced from real foods alongside medicinal herbs, with formulations informed by nutritional biochemistry and designed to provide nutrients in forms the body encounters in food.

That philosophy continues under OnBlends.

Even the capsules have been considered. The brand uses plant-derived cellulose capsules rather than gelatin and says that when a flow agent is necessary during manufacturing, rice husks are used rather than synthetic alternatives.

So, what exactly does a food-sourced supplement look like?

One of the most interesting examples is Iconic Iron. Rather than using one of the iron forms commonly found in supplements, it delivers ferritin iron sourced from organic peas. The iron is naturally contained within a plant protein shell, with the formulation also providing food-sourced cofactors including vitamin C from acerola, copper from sesame and beta-carotene from carrot.

It's also particularly timely given Dr Libby's latest book, Fix Iron First, which explores iron deficiency, and the role adequate iron stores play across energy, brain function and other processes throughout the body.

Elsewhere in the range, Organic Zinc delivers 15mg of zinc sourced from organic guava leaves, while the broader collection uses foods, plants and medicinal herbs to provide nutritional support across areas including energy, stress, sleep, digestion and women's health.

So why change the name after ten years?

According to the brand, the shift came from listening to what customers were saying about how they felt when their nutritional needs were better supported. Rather than talking solely about improving nutrient levels, customers were describing having more energy and capacity for everyday life and, ultimately, feeling more like themselves.

That's where the “On” in OnBlends comes in. The brand says it isn't intended to represent being constantly switched on or productive, but rather feeling present, clear, energised and capable. “Blends”, meanwhile, remains as a nod to the combinations of food-sourced ingredients and medicinal herbs that have formed the foundation of the range from the beginning.

For Dr Libby, the new identity is ultimately designed to take that approach to nourishment to more people globally, without changing the philosophy that started it all.

Bio Blends may now be OnBlends, but if you've never come across the range before, the new name might just be the reason you finally do.
