Creatine has become one of the most talked-about supplements in wellness, but there's a reason you've traditionally had to mix it into your water yourself. Keeping creatine stable in liquid has been a challenge for scientists and supplement manufacturers for decades, and Australian brand True Protein believes it's finally found a solution. Backed by a multimillion-dollar innovation hub in Melbourne, True Protein has developed a new ready-to-drink creatine product containing just two ingredients: 3g of creatine monohydrate and Australian spring water. No preservatives, chemical stabilisers or additional ingredients. So why is this such a big deal? Although creatine monohydrate is one of the most extensively researched sports supplements, it has a frustrating limitation. Once dissolved in water, it can gradually break down into creatinine, a compound that doesn't deliver the same benefits. Temperature, acidity and storage time can all influence how quickly this happens, making it difficult to guarantee how much creatine remains in a premixed drink by the time you consume it. True Protein says its new technology tackles this problem through a proprietary mechanical process that stabilises creatine without needing to alter the ingredient formula. The technology has been more than a decade in development by the brand's research partners, with True Protein establishing its Melbourne innovation facility to help bring the process to commercial scale. Preliminary independent laboratory testing has also delivered encouraging results, according to True Protein's scientific adviser, Professor Sergej Ostojic. Further testing of commercially manufactured products will help establish how the formulation performs throughout its intended shelf life. For anyone who's been following creatine's growing popularity beyond the gym, the development is worth watching. Research into creatine continues to explore its potential applications in healthy ageing and cognitive health. True Protein Liquid Creatine will launch in early 2027 in a 355ml still-water can, delivering 3g of creatine monohydrate per serve.
