Floating sauna experiences have started to make their way into Australia’s wellness scene, with Sydney’s
Wellness Afloat in Sydney Harbour generating early interest. Now, the concept has arrived further down the coast, with a new opening at Shellharbour Marina.
Those Floating Saunas is introducing the South Coast’s very first floating sauna experience, offering a new unique way to experience contrast therapy.
A Traditional Sauna, Reimagined on the Water
Founded by Jonas and Vienna (originally from Norway and New Zealand) the concept draws on traditional sauna culture, where heat, water, and fresh air work together to create a full-body reset.
Inside, the sauna is lined with Western Red Cedar, creating a distinct warmth and aroma. Guests are encouraged to pour water over the rocks to generate steam, lean into the heat, and move at their own pace.
What makes this experience stand out of course is the setting. Positioned directly on the marina, it allows you to step straight from heat into cold a with a dip in the netted ocean pool- or via the hand shower or with a bucket pour.
Everything You Need To Know
Sessions run for one hour, with two booking options available:
- Private sessions for groups of up to eight
- Social sessions where individuals can book a spot (capped at six people)
The format is intentionally simple. Most people move through short rounds around 10 to 15 minutes in the sauna, followed by a cool-down, repeating the cycle a few times across the session.
Between the water views, the communal element of the social sessions, and the simplicity of the experience itself, this new opening is one to add to your wellness hit list.
