There aren't many places in Sydney where you can step out of a wood-fired sauna and straight into Sydney Harbour, but Q Station's latest wellness experience lets you do exactly that. Harbour Heat has opened on Q Station's private wharf at North Head, bringing a new outdoor sauna experience to one of Manly's most spectacular waterfront locations. Set within Sydney Harbour National Park, the sauna looks directly across the water, with the surrounding bushland and harbour becoming a pretty impressive backdrop for your recovery session. Inside, things have been kept traditional. Harbour Heat uses a wood-burning stove to create the softer, more natural heat favoured in Finnish sauna culture, with water poured over hot stones to create löyly - the burst of steam that increases the humidity and intensity of the sauna. The location also makes natural contrast therapy incredibly easy. Once you've worked up enough of a sweat, you can step outside and dive directly into the harbour to cool down before heading back into the sauna for another round. It's the latest addition to a growing collection of outdoor sauna experiences making the most of NSW's waterways. We've previously shared the arrival of Wellness Afloat which takes contrast therapy onto Sydney Harbour aboard a purpose-built floating wellness vessel, along with Those Floating Saunas - a floating wood-fired sauna on Lake Illawarra. Harbour Heat brings its own spin to the concept, with Q Station's historic North Head setting forming a big part of the experience. "Harbour Heat is an initiative designed to bring the community together," said Steve Carrodus, Group General Manager, Q Station. "It's a beautiful space to spend time with friends, take a quiet moment to yourself, or connect with someone new." You can also enjoy one of Q Station's herbal teas during your visit, and sessions run from sunrise to sunset, Wednesday through Sunday. And if you're coming from elsewhere in Sydney, you don't need to drive all the way out to North Head. Q Station operates a complimentary shuttle from Manly Wharf timed to sauna sessions, with free parking also available for those arriving by car. So, if a wood-fired sauna followed by a plunge into Sydney Harbour sounds like your kind of way to spend an hour, Harbour Heat has just given you another reason to make your way to North Head. Sessions for opening day are already booked out, but you can book your spot from $20, with the next available sessions on Sunday 16 August, here.
